Zuzu is part german shepherd and part beagle, although we think she has something else (we aren't sure what) mixed in. Because she is part shepherd, she loves to herd things, especially other dogs. The beagle in her really shows when she is on a scent. She will run around with her nose on the ground and it is nearly impossible to break her concentration She loves running in Hubbard Park, where she can meet lots of dogs and smell lots of smells. People who see her in the park are always surprised to learn that she is nearly nine years old, because she still has the energy of a puppy and can keep up with almost any dog she meets.

Introducing Zuzu
This is my family's dog. Her name is Zuzu. My dad came up with that name. When we first adopted her, about eight years ago, my parents told me and my two sisters that we could name her. One week, 100 names, and 500 arguments later, my parents decided that maybe it wasn't the best idea to leave the naming to the kids. So my dad interrupted our fighting and announced that she would be named Zuzu, after George Bailey's daughter in It's a Wonderful Life. As a consolation prize, we were told that all of our top choices could be middle names for her. So, technically, her full name is Zuzu Sarah Muffin Princess Kazoo Elisabeth Butter Cupcake Minnie Happy Scoppettone.

I love your dog's name. We once had a bunny whose name was "Sally Bugsy Boxy Kenyon" and I thought that was bad!
ReplyDeleteI love everything about Zuzu! I love when kids name the pets. Our cats have been: Wild Guy, Napkin and Mr. Orange. I hope Tracy chimes in with names she has given to cats. Tracy?

ReplyDeleteOK, since I've been prodded, I'll bring my more-than-two cents to this.
ReplyDeleteFirst, like in the above comments, I love the full name of this very sweet looking dog. And I really like the line: "one week, 100 names, and 500 arguments later..." That's awesome.
Now, here's some of my favorite cat names from over many years: Cinda (after Cinderella); brothers Cinnamon and Ginger (Cinnamon later became "Sexy," which requires an in-person explanation and hand gestures); Ugly, who became Booger (he had feline herpes and it gave him a near-constant cold); Iris, who became Boob (again, this requires in-person explanation and hand gestures); and Fat Head (presently alive and well, regardless of his bad attitude). But the best names of all time came from Mr. Pooh. First, he was Pudge (for being chubby), then Pooh (like Pooh Bear for being so fluffy and cuddly), then Mr. Pooh (for maturing and clearly deserving more respect). He also responded to: Mr. Sassypants, Mr. No-Pants (after an accident, both of his legs had been shaved), Mr. Grey-Pants (his luscious black fur came in grey after being shaved), BoBo Baggins, BoBo, and Percival.
I desperately want to hear those stories.
DeleteI was not expecting feline herpes.
DeleteI love this post and the multiple names of Zuzu :) Almost all of the animals in my family have a Navy theme to them - Captain, Chief, Lieutenant (although we call him Louie), Frisco (San Francisco was where my parents were stationed), Cali - (California where my parents lived for a year or so after the Navy). Only two of our previous cats from my childhood don't fit, Smudge (who had a smudge on his nose) and Boo Kitty, who had the misfortune of being named by three year old me.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to read more next time you post.
